Heater Valve Diaphragm

Are these still available for the 250's? If not, are there any substitutes? I got one from a suppliers on eBay that was purported to be the correct replacement, but when it arrived it looked nothing like the original. Thanks.

Pretty sure I have bought them from GT Car Parts before and they worked fine

If GTCP doesn't pan out I suppose you could buy a replacement Alfa heater valve and pull out the diaphragm. Last resort.

Hi John,

I know the rubber diaphragm is available from the usual suspects. Partsource had me measure the diameter of the inner body because there are a couple of sizes. I think the one in your picture is the larger one.

Hello John,
Here a small overview on the valves used on 250's
See pic below on the left the early open or closed valve used from 1950 till 1958 even early PF's
the one in the middle used from 1958 till 1959) interim model
the last one on PF 1960 till Lusso/gto and some 275gt I think.
this last one was a kind of mass production also on Maserati,Alfa lancia etc
But you will know already I think.

Now back to your Lusso model.
The rubber diagram from Rutland is not correct for this model.
Even the known Prof shops do not really know what it is for , but that is not so surprising.
I always ask the Measurements/ sizes due to bad expierances I had my self .

Those water tubes on the your pix looks like standard Fuel lines to me .
The support spring on the valve is almost allways missing.

To clean the valve, an ultrasone bath will make them like new.

One thing to keep in mind is the heater valve lever is one of the things that you must excercise regularly, regarless of whether you drive the car regularly. If the diaphragm is seated in the closed position too long it sticks and tears.

I made my own from tire inner tube material, but it gave me only a few years of service. The valve in my PF coupe, for which I need the diaphragm is the cable operated type, exectly as shown in Cornelis' photos. He is always so helpful with his photos. Thank you C.

You can by a new replacement valve from one of the suppliers for $185. It looks very close to the original item, but it is not identical in appearance, therefore I wouldn't use it if it were 18 dollars and 50 cents: http://www.ferraripartsexchange.com/ima ... valve2.jpg
