GTE "project" for sale...

Post by silver1331 »

Not for the faint of heart...and the price seems very aggressive for the condition. As unlikely as it may be, I'd love to see someone put it back together.

What's amazing is even the bumpers are rusty!

I hope someone saves it instead of chopping it up.

Deja Vu all over again. Things are beginning to feel like 1989.

I just saw an article passed on by Bill Preston in the 250 GTE Newsletter that originated in the August issue of Sports Car Market re 250 GTE current valuations.

Quote,

" . . . speaking of collector cars in general, the "A" rated blue-chip collectibles are gaining value much faster than "C" rated, and that project cars and clones have become sale proof. The little booklet (Sports Car Market Pocket Price Guide) lists the 250 GTE 2-2 with 954 built between 1906-63, with a Buy-Sell range of Low of $90,000 and a High of $130,000. It rates the GTE with a Grade of C and a rating of 3 stars. Three stars indicates that the cars are fully priced at the current time and will appreciate or depreciate along with the market at large."

Or, if you don't mind starting your bidding at $225,000, you can have SN 3147. It has been restored at least twice, has its toolkit and for those who like to be prepared for anything, has an extra body.

Wow, this one was like a bad match.com ad. She looked a little rough in the pictures and there seemed to be a little potential in the written description, but when seen in the flesh you wanted to excuse yourself and run out the back door! This car had been sitting outside since the 1970s. You could almost put your finger thru the body as the 1960s Soviet steel turned to powder before your eyes.

The car was wedged between several others and I can only guess that it was to prevent it from getting up and walking out on its own. There was so much wildlife inside that I half expected the ants to hoist it and depart like in a Warner Bros. cartoon. A family of black widows had taken up residence inside the fuse box and valiantly attempted to resist my attempts to liberate the fuse covers. They were unsuccessful.

When Tom popped the valve covers off and uttered something like "holy sh*t" something that appeared to be sawdust poured from within. Upon closer inspection it was a full fledged habitrail packed with nuts and rodent refuse. In retrospect we both should have had full hazmat suits on. God knows what we breathed but it couldn't have been healthy.

Bits of it will live on in my car and others but this sad rustbucket is on its way to valhalla. Yet one more GTE on its way to the Hall of the Slain.

What is the serial number of that wreck? For what I can tell by those pictures it must have been built very shortly after mine!

That fits the picture. Did you notice where they moved the cigarette lighter after adding that Amp-meter?

Best wishes, Kare
