250 Pionion Shaft Seal

Post by rshim1 »

I need help locating a replacement for a late 250 rear axle lip seal for the pinion shaft input end. None of the usual suspects have it. The original seal has the name TAURUS on it and the numbers 604010 & 0633. Hopefully someone out there has a solution.

Hi Roger,

If you can get accurate measurements of the OD, ID and thickness of the seal, you can probably find a replacement from a seal supplier. Depending on how good you local auto supply house is, they may be able to order one. I'm surprised the "usual suspects" came up empty. I've replaced these seals before and don't seem to recall having a problem sourcing the seal.

Good luck!

Based upon the numbers quoted on the seal, I would suspect it is a 60x40x10 standard lip seal.

Looks like a standard seal to me. Just take ID, OD and thickness and go to any seal/bearing place and they will have them for $5 to $10.

you dont drive a overdrive car, I think that means you don't use the 7x32 ratio on the back
Roger I looked at a spare org. pinionschaft 7x32 this has a diameter of 30mm.
These seals can be bought at every SKF bearing schop on the corner . well atleast here
I did this sommer an exchange in to an other ratio 9x34 back to 8x34.
Those has thicker shaft too.
My problem was to get the right cupper spacers.
My maschinist made one out off steel, and I did the fine tunning with those thin ones see pictures

Thanks to all that have replied to my query. I measured my original and the seal size is as DWR46 said 60mm OD x 40mm ID X 10mm tall. I will check with a local bearing and seal supplier to locate a match. Roger
