I have siiiiiiiiiiiiined !!!

Post by lukek »

I have lived about a decade with the gte. What a fun ride. Lots of miles, car shows, drove the beast to work, on the track, and we bonded when i had to fix and improve her.

Alas, san francisco bay area traffic, my short commute, poorish usability of such a vintage ride, and an itch for something new.....finally conspired to create a garage reshuffle.
A local dealer (http://www.sanfranciscosportscars.com) and i came to an agreement where i gave up 4823, and got a 360 modena and a pile of cash in exchange. I know....most of you will wander why i traded an appreciating asset for a mass produced nouveaux riche swagger wagon ride. But i needed to get that modern v8 thing out of my system. An earlier 308 gt4 stint did not take. Not to mention that the pile of cash of cash shortly went poof (spousal unit wanted a gl550 mercedes benz).

But i am pretty pleased. 2 motorcycles and a vintage caddy keep me busy with the fiddling and parts hunting stuff, and the 360 witha tubi itches that itch.

Tom told me that i can still show up at his events and dinners, so i might.

There, i feel better now.

Hi Luke,

You'll have to recite five "Hail Enzos," and you can buy a round of drinks at the next Vintage Ferrari gathering, and all will be forgiven!

i am good for a round of drinks, and penannce has been recited. Not to mention that a bigger garage will bring something vintage back, one day. A C4, a 246 Dino, or even an Espada (yes, I am the one person who likes them) will lure me back. For now...a Caddy will not make me miss carbs and drum brakes.

Happy New Year !

Time to "out" an old friend.

Luke was signed up to show his 250 GTE at Hillsborough Concours a few years back. "I'll be there with my GTE!" he proclaimed.

Day of the show, there was the faintest mist in the air- just the slightest drizzle. Most people went with their cars, but guess who was a no-show?

Luke, I've been holding that over your head for a while now, angling for a free lunch in exchange for keeping quiet about the whole thing. Guess I missed my window!

All that's left to say is congratulations on your new ride- I love the 360 Modena, and I'm sure you will too. And as far as "not wanting to get the 250 wet" goes, I can now confess that I don't drive my cars in the wet either!

There is more to the story. Not only was it wet n the morning of the Hillsborough concours, but i had a little too much to drink the night before. it was very difficult to get out of bed, and my wife protested rather strongly.

You see.....i was at this party, and it was quite an affair. Many automotive legends were in attendance that night, racers, journalists, and men of industry. It was full of formula 1 pit girls, of course. They were still wearing their sponsor outfits and soliciting for drinks. Bernie was there, too, but being kind of short got lost in the crowd. I was playing the piano, and on my third martini, and this is when....

(rest of story over drinks)

Well, when the itching gets real bad you have no choice but to scratch it or it will fester. Congrats on your new toy. Will we see you at Concorso next year with a complimentary Armani and a matching gold chain then? :D

And by the looks of the website they've already sold it on.

I always see this expensive car/ plane related merchandise; watches that look like plane gauges, rings that look like planitary gears and wonder who buys these things? Now I know, new Ferrari/Maserati - old Cadillac driving people. Luuuuukkkkeeeee yoooouuu have gone to the dark side!
