Missing cover over engine mount?

Post by 330GT »

I was looking at the GTC parts book at the 330 2 mount engine TAV 1 and noticed that my engine doesn't have any covers over the engine mounts as shown. The parts book shows the cover as part #28 and mounting screws #29. What is interesting is that they only call for a quantity of 1 for the cover and 2 screws. So is that an error or is there supposed to be one a cover only on the left side mount as shown?

I've never paid any attention to the engine mounts. Are all 2 mount 330 engines supposed to have these or perhaps they were introduced only for the GTC engine?

Hi Kerry:

For what it's worth, my 365 gt 2+2 has the covers on both sides.

Thanks Mark,

I also got an email from a 275 owner and he confirms both sides too. In addition, the 275 parts book has a quantity of 2 for the covers.

I also realized that these are heat shields to protect the rubber engine mounts from the heat of the headers that are right above.

Hi Kerry

There should be one each side to protect the rubber mountings from too much exhaust heat. They were made from 1.5mm aluminium sheet and are very simple to replicate. I think they were originally fixed with a type of self tapping screw, but I drilled and tapped the support legs for small M5 machine screws. I use three screws per side to hold the cover away from the rubber, rather than letting it fall onto the rubber which it otherwise has a tendency to do. Good luck

I also had these missing on my 365. They were easy to fabricate from aluminum and I also used tapped small screws (the 5 mm sounds about right). I used only two screws per side as in the diagrams. They have been in place for 4 years now.

My 330GT 8855 is just a few cars later than Kerry's.

As Kerry's registry shows, I have a very complete history
of the car and knew the two who owned the car for
most of its history.

I have every reason to believe that the engine and/or
transmission have never been out of the car.

There are no small heat shields over the two
engine mounts.
