Saratoga Auto Museum Invitational May 13-15 2011

This is a great event. 3 Different car shows all in 1 place. The Invitational, a euro show on Saturday and an autoshow on Sunday. Lot's of big names behind it.

When it comes to car shows and invitational events, there are three givens: enthusiasts thrive on variety, three-wheeled cars are always a hit and, no matter how perfect the cars are, good weather is vital to success.

The mid-May Saratoga Spring Invitational, hosted by the Saratoga Automobile Museum on the Saratoga Spa State Park’s scenic Reflecting Pool Lawn, hit all three notes and, by any standard, was a huge success.

First held in 2009 as a supplement to the Museum’s longstanding Spring Auto Show, which helps fund SAM’s many educational programs, the Invitational immediately became one bookend of the Spa City’s summer season. Traditionally capped by the thoroughbred meet held at the nearby Saratoga Race Course from mid-July through Labor Day, summer in Saratoga has also become lawn show season, with the Saratoga Spring Invitational kicking off a 21-show extravaganza featuring everything from Citroens to the annual Hemmings Sports and Exotics Show. Like the ancient race course, horsepower and speed were the bywords at the Invitational, with the 50 entries arrayed graciously around the Reflecting Pool amidst the park’s stunning WPA era brick buildings. Everything from restored Jaguar racers to a gorgeous prewar MG J1 and a gleaming 1942 Series One-Sixty Packard. That’s what Saratoga Springs is all about.

The planning for the 2011 Saratoga Spring Invitational is well underway and the Museum looks forward to another successful weekend. The 2011 show will feature the marque of Packard, one of America’s cherished vehicles. The dates are May 13, - 15 and participants will find many events packed into those three days. A scenic drive to Lake George, a cocktail reception and the opening of our new Spring Exhibit.

A Brief Schedule of Events for the Invitational Participants

Friday will find you driving along some of the most scenic highways in New York State. Your destination is to view a fine collection of vehicles, then to lunch on the shore of Lake George. The evening festivities include an evening with Museum curator, Ken Gross. You will delight in a personal tour of our new exhibit while sipping some of the finest wines that Saratoga Springs has to offer.

Saturday and Sunday, your vintage vehicle will enjoy being on the grounds of the Saratoga State Park surrounded by fine architecture, manicured lawns and a reflecting pond. Lunch will be served on the portico as you enjoy the scenic views of the park. Saturday evening dinner will be a combination of delicious foods for the palate and great conversation for the soul as we dine at the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club.

Sunday will conclude with a world class trophy presentation determined by 5 veteran Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance judges. The vintage vehicles that are accepting the handcrafted awards will be parading around the reflecting pond for all to admire.
