This winter 32635 will be treated to an 'Engine out' Service
primarily to replace the Timing Chain
as well as rebuild the H2O and Oil Pumps
along with those 'while it's out' items
(such as Gaskets and Seals)
I did not have much trouble locating parts
with the notable exception of 100210 Tensioner, Timing Chain, Fixed
this was NLA from Ferrari and NO ONE but NO ONE had one
this did not come as a surprise,
as apparently this problem is endemic to the 2-Cam Engines
(especially later ones)
i.e. the Timing Chain wears out the Tensioners
the Fixed Tensioner bears the brunt of this wear
as it tensions the chain on the 'tight' end of the Chain
(right next to the Crank, as the Chain gets pulled around)
so it makes sense that this part freqently needs replacement
and also makes sense that they are 'all gone'
(one dude in the FCA who had previously owned a 400A
told me the part would cost me $1000+)
yikes!
BUT
my 'chums' at Ferrari UK
have come through once again!
they did a 'global' search for this part for me.
'global' indeed, as they told me Ferrari SA
(as in South Africa)
showed as having one (1)
left in stock
(in fact, the only one showing in stock ANY where)
I contacted Ferrari SA ASAP directly
and their response was
'yes we have it'
BUT
'we prefer to deal with Ferrari NA ONLY'
so instead, I put them in touch with Ferrari UK,
and they were OK with that
and in fact, that was all it took.
(I offered to pay in advance or at least make a deposit,
but that offer was graciously declined)
the order was placed by Ferrari UK
and I got confirmation from them
in the mail a few days later...
the part shipped from South Africa to the UK
and to the NW
and then to ME!
(OK, so it took about 4 weeks)
pretty cool, though!
it might be 'the only one left in the world'
and I have somehow managed to 'score' it!
