Pulling front springs
Guys: My new front springs are soon to arrive. Any insights as to the best, and safest way to remove the old ones and compress the new? With the weight off the tires is there much stored energy? Is there a tool that will work? There seems too little exposed coil to capture with a traditional spring compressor. Michael Bayer #9727
Michael, here's the story about taking apart the front suspension and springs on my 330 GT:

As for the spring compressor I used, there's very little room to use one that fits on the outside. I tried an internal one that I couldn't make work. In the end, I used a very old pair that just fit through the hole in the bottom of the bucket:
You can see how they fit in this picture:
If that hadn't of worked, I was just going to get some 1/2" treaded rod or a long bolt and use some bar stock to make something that could be assembled inside of the coil.
BTW, there is still a LOT of tension in the spring when the suspension is unloaded.
Regards, Kerry
