By pass oil filter connections 330GT 2+2

Post by Pierre Pages »

Hello
I just acquired a 330 GT 2+2 1966 and I am a beginner as far as mechanic is concerned .Recently ,I disconnected the 2 pipes from the aluminium piece supporting the oil by pass filter (the one fixed on the left front wing of the car ) without identifying the pipe connected in the center of the aluminium piece and the one connected at the periphery .Could one of the members give me a way to identify the right pipe for the right connection (I see that one of the 2 pipes is coming from the bottom of the front face of the engine ,behind the pulley ) as I am afraid if I connect wrongly it could be very damageable .

Hello Pierre,

Welcome to my website!

On my 330 the center oil line drains back into the oil pan, while the other one comes from the front of the timing chain case.

The inlet to the filter from the chaincase always goes to the "outside" fitting, and the outlet from the filter always comes from the "center" fitting and returns the oil to the pan.

Pierre, my 330 has the same placement of the bypass as yours, and yes the center outlet is the drain back to the pan.
