Rocker Panel Painting

Post by treue »

Gemmun:

Did Ferrari apply the bumpy coating (undercoating?) under the paint of the rocker panels of my 67 330 2+2 when they built it? Or was this done when it was repainted? In other words, is the bumpy finish correct? My painter needs to know. He's getting close

I concur with Tom, no "bumpy" surface on the rocker panels. My 330 had that as well and it must have been painted that way 20 years ago as a rock and chip guard, however to the best of my knowledge it's not correct for the car.

No bumpy paint and car color, not black. The metal strip on the pinch weld under the rockers is semi-gloss black through.

Thanks, guys. Smooth and body color it is. I'll pass that on to my paint shop.

Hi Kerry,

Speaking of the metal strip, do they have blind screws or are they held in place with oval head phillips machine screws?

Flat head phillips machine screws on mine (8755). The strip itself is a box with most of the back open. The holes in the strip are countersunk so the screw heads are flush with the surface.

Made of steel, the inside gets packed with dirt, etc., making it rust from the inside. If i were to have to replace these, I would use some 1/4" thick aluminum of the appropriate width. That way, nothing to rust and nowhere for crud to accumulate.
