Problem with new 330 GT brake hoses

Post by 330GT »

I had to replace the front brake hoses on my 330 GT. I bought new ones from Rutlands specifying the Ferrari part number.

When I went to install them, I found that the inner thread for the flare nut was a little smaller in diameter (a few thousands) that the old ones. This meant that the neck beyond the end of the threads on the flare nut would not fit inside the inner thread on the hose end, so the two sets of threads would never meet to thread together. The white arrow points to the neck.

My solution was to use a Dremel with a drum sanding bit to buzz off some metal from the outside of the neck.

But it took me hours to figure out what was wrong. I kept thinking that I just wasn't aligning the flare nut in the hose fitting properly. For more pictures and details, see http://www.parrotbyte.com/kbc/ferrari/F ... s.htm#2012

Hi Kerry,
after reading you're repair replacement of the brakelines .
I couldn't believe this(flare nut difference in diameter)
but you are RIGHT new flare nuts has a smaller diameter I checked it at my stock.
new nuts will fitt without problems ,but the original nut dont get in!
If this a change in DIN I doubt .

" the new DIN standards since then have probably changed just a bit."

the brake system is Englischthread not so much to do with German standards-DIN- I think.
German are so over correct and precise they will prefer to DIE before they change there standardisation.

one little story on the side line:

we change the brake line on #4757gt
Not why the car did not brake well ,but to save weight !
those three enforced( for stiffer pedal feeling) race lines cost in year 2000
around 1500 euros
the gain was 7 grams( no joke)
car is at Tom Price now ?

C.

Thank you Kerry. I was going to replace my old lines very soon and would surely be scratching my head. Has anyone had better success with other suppliers brake lines?

You can always use the original fittings, and have a hydraulic shop crimp on new hose.

I just received new rubber brake hoses from GTO and they fit perfectly. They even had the correct rear line.

There were some files lost in a system upgrade a while ago, and these may have gotten lost in the shuffle. Sorry about the inconvenience.
