2023 GT & 1147 GT

Post by earthandsea »

Greetings: PF coupe 2023 GT has a new caretaker. The previous New Jersey-based owner cared for 2023 GT from about 1976 to present, and did quite a bit of restoration work, which I intend to complete. I do not know the history prior to about 1976. From 1976? photos, it appears the car was not a driver for several years prior to 1976. It might have been dormant since the sixties. The car was originally blu sera (a dark blue). 2023 GT has RW 3598 wheels, 40DCL6 Webers, 7x32 dif, overdrive.
2023 GT joins 1147 GT in my barn in SF Bay Area. There does not seem to be anything known about 2023 GT on the net, and for that matter, on 1147 GT prior to about 1977. 1147 GT was originally sold to "Guinness", resident of Switzerland by Italauto SA of Lausanne. I am not on the forum as often as I should be.

Hi EaS
As I recall right(?) very late PF coupe and series II cab came with Borrani RW 3598's 5 1/2 x 400mm wheels. Not 16" wheels.
Only one Michelin tire available that is correct.... and drives average.
but the 16 inch fitts much better in the wheel arch.
the 5 1/2x 400 look like lost in space.
All early and mid produced PF has 16 inch Borranis.
only for info

ciao
C.

Thanks. 16 inch wheels are an alternative. Also, there may be a suitable 400mm tire.

Hello EaS!

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations to the addition to your collection.

I've worked on 1747 which came with the 400mm wheels. We purchased a set of 16 inch wheels to fit better tires.

I look forward to hearing more!

Congrats on your two PF's. I found out the remainder of 1747's history from Marcel Massisni; I am certain he would have some data on both of your cars if they were originally sold in what is now the EU.

The 16" Borranis with period Blockley rubber on them look great and stick like glue. I have my 5 Borrani 400's in storage for now, as they were OE to my car per the Ferrari build sheet...

Forza,

Thanks Tom and David. I do have a bit of work to do before I need to shop for tires, but its fun to think about the "jewelry" and actually driving the cars. I have 15" wheels on 1147 GT and another set of 15" and another set of 400mm wheels. No 16" wheels though. I did see the very well done video of 1747 GT but have not yet read the Forza article. Nice car. I need just a few parts here and there. Is anyone making replacement aluminum trim that runs along the lower edge below the rocker panels? I have one pair that is restorable, but still need another pair of originals or replacements.
As an ex-NYer (New Rochelle), I feel for you guys. I remember hurricanes there when I was a kid.

I just got this e-mail from the previous owner of 1147:
Just wanted to let you know that I used to own 1147GT. I traded it for a 550 Maranello back in 2002 with Los Gatos Luxury Cars. The car originally came from Pennsylvania Motor Sports and from what I understand apart from the original owner being Guinness this car was once in the collection of Nicholas Cage.

Best Regards
Simon
