See-thru tuning spark plugs
I'd be interested in hearing any experiences with these. Thanks in advance.

Re: See-thru tuning spark plugs
If your referring to color tune it's work great. I use it on all my vintage cars. It's
takes time to set it up and best to have the garage dark to be able to see the flame. The great thing about it is that it allows me to set the carbs perfectly with no guess work.

Thanks SLM, I just ordered one. I was going to get six till I realized what they cost.
Do you use them on the Ferrari the same way as demonstrated on Youtube, or is there anything more I need to know? Thanks.

Yes. I do have an MGA as well and did the same as the video. However, on the 250 you will need to use the black tube and mirror attachment they give you since you can't look straight into the sparkplug hole from overhead.I still did mine at night as its harder to see the flame than the video suggests. The hard part is the patience of doing 12. good luck.

SLM, thanks, do you need to do it 12 times, seems six samplings is all you need, correct?

Re: See-thru tuning spark plugs
I've always struggled to get the mix right and have the severely fouled plugs to prove it, so I decided to get one as well. Doing my Daytona looks to be somewhat easier, in that the plugs are really easy to access. However, every plug must be R&R'd to do the job, but on my GTC, you'd only do 6. Since there's only one mix screw per 2 cylinders, there'd be little reason to test the next door neighbor. I'll be anxious to hear how it goes and will report my results as well. steve meltzer "Never enough time to do it right, always enough time to do it over!"

John,
Yes. Meant to say 6 times. Make sure to pick the 6 easiest to use the tool with.

Re: See-thru tuning spark plugs
I used the color tune to tune my BB512 and Daytona.
It worked perfect on the Boxer.
On the Daytona I found it tuned them towards the lean side as I had trouble maintaining idle. Another half turn open did the trick.
Good tool for the price.

Re: See-thru tuning spark plugs
I just got it yesterday and fooled around a bit with this AM before work. I don't think i'll need the "viewscope" which I found awkward. Also, it looks like it's easier to read at about 1200 than say, 950. Was this your experience? s

Steve,
If I remember correctly, I had a little difficulty reading them in bright sun light. I ended up pulling the cars into the garage to read the color. I think I was looking straight down the spark tube hole when I did this.

Ok - now I am understanding 950 vs 1250RPM.
I really do not remember, and maybe that was my problem on the Daytona, as as you get everything synced up the idle tends to increase.

Re: See-thru tuning spark plugs
yeah, it's harder to read in good lighting. can't really close the garage doors either, or it might be your last reading! s

The message is in the eye of the beholder --- well, it is the answer to the question that precedes it.Lowell wrote:steve
