Nice one Michael!

I found some left over 10mm Stainless Steel bar in my off-cut metal rack today, so following Kerry’s measurements I started to make some Checkstrap pins.

After making a pair of pins I went looking for washers. One of my pet hates is cheap thin washers. True to form the “standard” M6 washers were a really loose fit, too thin and the outside diameter was much bigger than the pins head, so I decided to make my own washers from the same Stainless bar. In this way I could get them exact, with a good fit on the pin shaft and the same outside diameter of the pins head.

Now I know some of you guys might like some, so guess what…..
I made 10 of them!

Ok so I now need to drill the pins for the securing split pin to pass through under the washer. But before I can do that I need some more information.
The check straps are around 3mm thick, and the two metal lugs on the door pillar around 1.5mm thick, so my question is……are there any shim or bearing washers fitted top and bottom of the check strap where it fits between the two lugs on the car?
The strap is 3mm, the two lugs are 1.5mm + 1.5mm total = 6mm. But if shim or bearing washers are fitted it would be greater than 6mm.
I need to know this before I drill the holes in the pins otherwise they may not fit correctly.
So can anyone clarify this?

Thanks

Thanks Michael, consider 1 pair yours.

I do need to know the measurements for drilling the split pin hole first and if shim or bearing washers are fitted eitherside of the check strap.
Can someone confirm please?

Kind regards
Darren
