Thank you, Tom

Post by John Vardanian »

The Thursday evening gathering to some of us has become as significant an event as any big event of the car week. Though I do plenty car jabber on the Net, the real fix for me is doing it face-to-face and what better place than Tom's party. Thank you, Tom!

Greetings… It was good seeing you at the mission, John, but we didn't make the evenings gathering. We were tracking down some H4 headlight bulbs for a friends 275 GTB. He showed at The Quail and at Concorso gathering a silver at Concorso. As we were unloading for Concorso (right side of the road on the grass on the way in) I waved at all the cars coming in-well maybe not all the SUV's. The Ferraris guys all waved back as did the Maserati guys and almost all the Alfa guys. Mustang drivers mostly returned waves as well. Only one Porsche guy waved. Had a great time and next year the Big Yellow Taxi will be there-probably not painted yet but humming along on a freshened engine.

You're welcome!

The bartender was keeping count and told me we had over 75 people at the party. Another record set, so more food was ordered!

Many years ago, Doug Freedman used to host a fabulous invitation only lunch on Ocean Ave while the Pebble Beach Tour pulled into Carmel by the Sea. I was honored to be invited to this event and loved seeing all Doug's friends and car people gathering for this huge event. There were easily 500 people there, and Doug managed to get corporate sponsorship to foot the bill. My dream is to recreate that event in a much smaller scale, with a little less exclusivity, and no corporate sponsorship. Thanks to everyone who came, and let's hope it continues!

Yes Tom, great job on the party and keeping that venue the last few years. I brought a very different group with me this year and not only did they feel welcomed but they all enjoyed meeting the T-Yang crowd. I actually had a better time at the Thursday night Yang/Quail party than I did at the official Quail event on Friday.

Next year my invite goes out to all of you to join us on the Fuel Run Rally Saturday morning, this year we did a very nice two hour drive in the morning which ended with a nice catered lunch at Laguna Seca

will do John, this was only the second year for the rally but it was a great success. Very reasonable cost which included breakfast, lunch, tickets to Laguna Seca and special private parking inside the track near the Michilin Bridge. Mostly modern cars but I had the Miura and there was a MB Gullwing and 300SL roadster to represent the old cars. Seeing as next year will be the Ferrari nationals coinciding with Monterey week its a good excuse for everyone to bring their cars out and actually drive them oposed to jsut parking on the grass.

You can make this happen. All big things started small.
