Interesting thread about the fate of 330 America, s/n 5055 (the sister car to Tom's, I would guess):

Woman buried in Lusso

Post by Rudy van Daalen Wetters »

The headlines should have read "Lussotania sinks again!"

Interesting thread.

Got a copy of the video of Tom's "Sister" going to it's eternal reward.

Here are a couple of screen grabs.

Indeed. That is her. The comment Harry read was "I lived in California, but I wanted to be buried in Texas, where the money came from.".

Black gold, Texas tea.....

Don't know, but I assume that she had some time to plan. How many 37 years olds would have been so elaborate if they didn't know it was coming?

From Time Magazine in May of 1977...

<<Like Egypt's King Tutankhamen, who had a couple of golden chariots buried near him when he died in 1352 B.C., Californian Sandra Ilene West is journeying to the hereafter in style. Oil Heiress West died two months ago (the cause has not been determined) at the age of 37. Last week Mrs. West was buried, as she requested, "in my lace nightgown ... in my Ferrari, with the seat slanted comfortably." At the San Antonio cemetery where her husband is also buried, several hundred awed spectators looked on as a gray-painted wooden crate, 6 ft. by 8 ft. by 17 ft., was lowered into the ground by a crane. To deter any grave robbers cum 1964 Ferrari buffs, the crate was covered with concrete. And so another gas guzzler bites the dust.>>

I was in Dallas at the time and remember the incident being in the news...I think she died of cancer and had time to plan things out.

Found it. You are correct Sir! I've found three different newspapers that claim three different things (aftereffects of a 1976 car accident, natural causes, OD). I'll go with the Coroner's inquest which says OD.

I'll post a jpg shortly. Her doctor said she had "become psychotic lately". Why is it that I think of Bill Murray in Caddyshack when i read that??
