I'm looking for a new set of brushes for the MT 21 starter, I've contacted the usual guys, no one has them in stock or is able to provide availability. Any leads?
Best Regards, Tom in Socal.
Starter Brush
Re: Starter Brush
Greetings…. I would seek out a commercial starter rebuilder. They might be able to match them up with something more common. If you do, let us know part number or application.

Re: Starter Brush
in the late 90th early 2000 I use to upgrade the old Marelli MT 21 stater,
by replacing all the internals !
only bushing renewing don´t make it new.
every org. starter is at least approx. 50 years old.
Iskra had the license to produce the MT 21 for diesel Tractors but with much more power(read speed). 2.8kW
everything is compatible expect the clock/head.
but since the high torque japan stater is available Iam addicted to those .
cheap and reliable arond 500 USD I think.

they're in NJ, have the Iskra in stock for $295.
As an aside, back in my Alfa days I had a little side gig going converting 2 pole Bosch starters to 4 pole. Only requires switching out the brush plate and making the appropriate connections. Starter turns twice as fast. Made a huge difference in starting.

Re: Starter Brush
After much searching and no availability from the usual guys I found a Bosch part that is a perfect match for the Magneti Marelli MT21T starter, unfortunately the Bosch part is not easily found either but I did find a set on Eprey for 15 bucks, the same USA seller has another set listed again so he must have a stock of them, more are to be found with European sellers.tim wrote:If you do, let us know part number or application.
