Where are you going to get appropriate shoes:- surely not Discount Shoe Warehouse! I suggest there are excellent bootmakers on Threadneedle Street who could fit you with something good enough for such a neat carriage.

Talk about great timing! In preparation for 4247 GT coming home, I am cleaning all the accumulated stuff out of the garage and making room for a car. In the process, I came across the previous owner's "bitsa box", which I haven't looked at in at least 10 years. The ohe kept everything and in this box were burned out fuses, broken brushes, bearings and AN EMERGENCY LIGHT! I am guessing that the last time I looked in here I had no idea what it was.
The light has no markings of any kind, so I do not know who made it. The plug does fit the power source on the bottom of the dash (photo attached). It does look like it once had a light shield like the one Tom Y shows, but I don't know what it looked like.
The lesson learned: Clean out your garage!

I recently sent my turn indicator switches to Jim Simpson at O.D.D. Parts as they were sticky and one of the plastic bits was completely broken. Also, the black tips of the stalks were warped when I used heat to remove them to do the chrome work. Jim works quickly and is VERY good at communicating what needs to be done. (Note that when he says "this part is missing" it is because I forgot to send it).
They came back today and look great! Jim can fix all kinds of switches, recast knobs, create fasteners and whatever. Check him out at http://www.oddparts.com

Zac once told me that when I paint the car, make sure to get the dashboard perfect. As he pointed out, the outside will be seen by other people, usually at 60+ mph, while I will be sitting inside staring at the dash... So, I had Peter Hogeness paint my dash beautifully and am now anticipating Peter Engle finishing the black leather that surrounds that beautiful white paint.
But it takes more than paint to make a dash. My nice Veglia gauges with their yellowed finish seriously spoils the look. However, 10+ years ago, the Yangsters took care of that problem. It turns out that the gauges themselves are great, but it is a clear plastic disk inside that looks so bad. When we looked into this, getting new disks made was a significant portion of the value of the car, due to the difficulty of the usual suspects making the concave plastic "bowls". However, Tom Y went to the plastic district of NY and had a bunch made for a couple of bucks. After sending them to the usual suspects for painting, my recollection is that the whole set was around $75.
Many years later, my gauges have been sent to North Hollywood Speedometer and the needles and rim trim have been painted (I had the bezels re-chromed elsewhere) and each gauge tested and calibrated. With Tom Ys plastic disks installed, they look great!' One more step on the road to Monterey...

the plug looks identical to the outlet on my 190 SL; also used for emergency light- except outlet is in the engine bay. must have been a common item then.

But , how can you wind up the three day mech.working clockwork and reset the fingers?

I have the winding stem for the clock, it just isn't in this photo. It looks like the one to reset the trip odometer, just shorter.250GT wrote:Tom, very nice work indeed

Yes it does look like it has the same plug. I like the metal surround, especially the clip, though it looks like it would get hot. Is there a plastic insert inside the metal sleeve that looks like mine? I wish I hadn't said that about the red light that Tom Y showed us... Zac sent me the under-dash socket today and guess what, the plug on my light was too big. It is cigarette lighter size, 2 cm in diameter and the hole in the socket is 1.5 cm and has two slots in the hole. This light must be from another car that the previous owner had. If you want to try and find a light like the red one, there are more details in a discussion we had in 2011. When I purchased my GTE, it came with a tool kit that was half Ferrari, half Craftsman. I went back to the seller and asked if I could look at her husband's toolbox. As you might have guessed, it was half Craftsman and half Ferrari. It never hurts to ask! By the way, a year later I went with her son -in-law and helped clean and organize her garage. Got the radio, heat shields, package shelf and a bunch of other odds and ends...
Anyway, I was contacted recently by a Yangster asking if I could measure my Tool Roll so he could reproduce the leather. He said he was happy with what I sent and a package was in the mail. Two days later I received an original Fan Belt with cardboard case; the only part in the Owners Manual photo that I was missing! Thank you Roger!
So, all of the tools came with the car except for the Fan Belt, Hub Puller (which because of the spider webs included in the sale, I believe to be original), the Pliers (which match a description given by Tom Shaughnessy on FChat) and the Grease Gun Hose (a repro from Parker Hall). Note a couple of extras; the Emergency Window Winder in the bottom right (I don't have electric windows, but wanted this anyway) and the Grease Gun U-Joint adapter (left of the hammer. Not in the Owners Manual Photo, but Parker says it was included). Also, I am keeping my well-loved Knock Off Lead Hammer. It is original, but used as it was intended to be...
Please note that my Tool Roll is the reverse of the one in the Owners Manual Photo. I attribute this to the person sewing not caring which way it should go. Parker also says there should be a bottle of oil for the Horns in a cardboard box, but I cannot afford that until the engine is done... After that, we can delve into the Owners Pouch, another area that is beyond my current price range.
If anyone needs more detailed photos of the tools, let me know. I am happy to share even if you can't send gifts

Can you list the 7 wrench sizes? I trust they're Beta Auto 55s and are they sequential (10mm & 11mm on one wrench) or do they skip (10mm & 12mm on one wrench).
