Name the car onto which this elegant part goes
I recently acquired a (i hope) correct steering wheel fro my 330GT. However, it did not come with the correct hub mount. The correct mount is part 740075, which is a somewhat barrel shaped part:
What I got with the wheel is a very elegant tapered aluminum part: So that leads to two questions:
1. Anyone have any idea what car the tapered part belongs to?
2. According to Maranello Concessionaires there are two versions of the barrel mount - 740075 and 740075/A. They are different lengths and one has a 10mm offset lip. Could anyone with a 330 do me a favor and measure the length of the hub on their car?
TIA

Hi Dave,
The billet aluminum hub fits on earlier cars like the 250s.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Of course that begs the question - does anyone out there have an extra 330 hub and needs a 250 hub ?

Dave,
you asked for dimensions of the 330 steering wheel hub:
Length 45mm (what is visible in assembled position)
Groove width about 17mm, slightly tapered (groove for the assembling nuts)
These dimensions are from SN 8741

Thank you!
Just to be clear, is the total length 45mm or 45+17 mm?

Hmm,
I sent Paula a note a few days ago and she said she did not have one....
It seems that Sergio at autoepoca has them, but its sometimes a little tough to know exactly what you are getting from him. So it's either him or Maranello.

Re: Name the car onto which this elegant part goes
After a few weeks of research I ordered a hub-adapter from Maranello, and after many month, I finally got to installing it. 'Cept it does not work. See attached pics. The center horn contact is too tall, and in fact sticks above the surface of the wheel hub.
Has anyone seen this before? I am exceedingly reluctant to shorten the contact pin.
It would seem that the hub is not deep enough , or that it slides down the steering shaft too far.
Eurospares has the part as well, and I am almost inclined the order one from them to see if it works OK
TIA!

Hi Dave,
The brass horn contact is a friction fit in the rubber bushing that in inside the steering column. You can push it in to the appropriate depth, but make sure there is enough friction to hold the contact in place or else the first time you lay on the horn will be the last time you get your horn to work without going back inside the steering column again! I sometimes use electrical tape, or shrink tubing to give the brass rod a little more diameter to stay in place.
