330 rocker arm adjuster screw set-up

Post by IslandGuy »

Did the original 330 rocker arms have Heli-coils installed from the factory for the adjusting screws? Seems like a poor application as several appear to be falling out and/or off-centre.

Thanks

Greetings… Mine are not Heli_Coiled. I can't imagine what would happen to them to require Heli-Coils.

Thanks all for the relies. The amount of hack workmanship found never ceases to amaze me. I think a Time-Sert would have been a much better repair as, at least, it would have been properly retained from the top side.

I agree, but I've met some old timers that swear by Helicoils. I think the diameter of the hole to fit them is smaller than a timesert insert, so depending on the application, the timesert may weaken the connection. I prefer timeserts, but can see how any thread insert is only as good as how well it's installed!

Looking for three rocker arms...Anyone?
(I found some in Italy, but was hoping to find something a bit more local...)

Thanks

New used rocker arms received as replacements for the damaged ones on hand ...
These are supposed to be for a 330, yet the ends appear different, although the geometry of the arms appears identical.
And to further add to the axial clearance issues, these arms are about 0.080" thinner than the original ones.

Anyone ever seen this variation of the rocker?
Thanks

Dave
Go to Fchat, vintage section. Search under "repairing 330 cams and valves" post #30.

Thanks Cory. I make it a point to avoid that site at all cost...but the post you reference does appear to be correct. Another step backwards...
