Grigio Argento 20265 A Italver

Post by chris »

Dear All,

what actual color available in the market is the nearest
match to Grigio Argento 20265 A Italver?

I do now know my car was this color but have no samples.

I tried different paint suppliers but they are only able to come
up with the formula for 18940 Grigio Argento.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Christopher

Try the PPG Color Library. You should be able to get the number from a PPG dealer. Many years ago, they were able to translate an Italver color( now owned by PPG) into a current color mix.

Chris, Dyke is right. That's exactly how I found the modern equivalent to my grigio fumo and it was a dead close match. The silver-grays are easy like that, seems they got recycled over the years.

Dear John, dear Dyke,

thanks for the hints. I have tried several paint suppliers here in Germany but they are only able to match 18940, not 20265 as grigio argento. Nexa/ PPG even did an request in the headquarter in Italy. They can only provide formulation and product on 18940. I now tried to register in the ppg database.

Thanks again, Toms forum and the people contributing is so much more than you are able to find on the other side of the pond.

Chris, do you have any traces of the original paint anywhere on the car?

Not really. It was painted twice. First white then silver, but not the right shade. I only have some sample were I scrapped away tho top layers, but this is only a hint, nothing to use for real sampling.

Chris, usually, the windscreen and back window flanges tend to have traces of the old paint. This is a good place for true reference because it gets a thick layer of the paint and stays unharmed by the UV. The other place, but less representative, is inside the door panels, under the door cards.
