window mechanism 250 GTE

Post by Melchior »

Hi,

I have problems with my window mechanism. One tooth of the cogwheel with the crank handle sleeve is missing and the window does not slide within the lead when beeing closed. I think the two side slieve gaskets need to be replaced and the nylon bush as well - see pics. Does anybody have these parts or know where to get them?

Any help appreciated - thank you, Martin

I don't know if the cogwheels are available but assuming they're not a possible alternative is to build up the missing tooth with weld plus some reshaping. I've had success this way, although it wasn't for the Ferrari.

I could have sworn I've seen this mechanism brand new somewhere! I know you can open it up, weld, and file the tooth to the right shape if you have the patience like Terry suggests.

Ja, thank you for sharing the experioence with the welding-solution, I also thought about this way as the "emergency exit". Anyhow I would like to get a spare part for replacement if somehow possible. I do not hesitate to invest the work on the broken part but think that the welded surface might not be hard enough to last for long.

Tom, If your memory somehow get´s it where you have seen this part this would be great. I am sure that the same part was used in other cars too as it is hard to imagine that Ferrari for the relatively small number of cars they produced had a genuine window mechanism designed, what do you think?

OK, I found where I saw it. It was in Francois' parts stash! Now the question is how much does Francois want to sell this piece. It's the last one he has!

Well, I guess we have established how much someone is willing to pay for these parts.
