Front Shock Absorber Mounting Nut SWB
Hello eyeryone,
I want to put on a correct nut for the front shockabsorber in the engine bay. The car is a late 61 or early 62 SWB, just finished early january 62.
So far i have seen all different kinds of nuts... High Polystop in cad and black oxide, castle nuts, standard nuts with locking washer in black oxide. Even the concours cars are not the same.
Thank You guys
E

My early SWB, 2177, had cad nylocks. Jim

They are (clear) cadmium plated lock nuts. The plastic inserts are yellow. These are quite visible upon opening the bonnet so hopefully you can find a pair of original nuts and have them plated, then after plating recolor the inserts. The new replacements are not replicated quite accurately.

On my 63 GTE all damper fixings are cad plated with yellow inserts as described by John. I had them replated and usdd them with additional 3m srew locking compound.

I'm going to throw my 2 cents worth and agree. White cad plated nylocks with yellow plastic nylon. The bolts are black oxide.

mechaniker, if you are aiming for dead accuracy, examine the Newco lock nuts closely before getting them. I do not think they look exactly as the original.

This is how they look. They are 22mm nuts. The overall height is 16mm; the height of the flats is 14mm.

Thank You,
as I was not able to buy a set of correct Nuts, I just asked my CNC guy to reproduce them for me. He will make 4 pieces.
As here it is impossible to do cadmium plating, they will be nicke matte.
Best
