330 GT grille

Post by Wrigs2019 »

I’ve been making good progress on the restoration of my grille. Disassembling it was the toughest part. It was secured with aluminum pop rivets which I had to drill out. I then had to pry apart the individual aluminum slats which had been secured by crimping the metal. All parts have been wet sanded too 1200 grit and are ready for buffing. My question is about the horse that is mounted on the front of the grille. It looks to made of steel not aluminum. Does this need to be sent out for chrome?

Hi Clint,

1200 grit? You may want to go to 2400. You may still see fine scratches in the aluminum after polishing if the sanding process is too coarse. Buff one piece and see how it looks. Wear a good dust mask that seals to your face. That particulate matter from the buffing is not good for your lungs!

Yes, the horse is chrome plated.
