GTE Seat Covers

Post by Tom Wilson »

As 4247 GT will be coming home to California mid-summer, I would like to get covers for the front seats. With our high temperatures and no air conditioning, sweat is going to be a problem. Has anybody found good ones?

Hi Tom,

I honestly would use it as it is. Leather gets more charming the better it is used. Use once the year a good leather oil to feed it. It will tell your story of the car after years of use. If you leave it in the sun cover the front and back window. And if it so hot that you sweat as hell cover it with towels. But do not cover it to keep it as new for the owner after you. That would be a shame. I hope you do not mind me being so open to say so. I love the used leather of mine and I have gone great length to keep it instead of having new one. If I would have new leather I would use it to show that is has been lived in.

Yes, I agree, patina adds to the charm. The idea would to only use it on summer days where it regularly gets over 100 degrees here.

I guess, when buying new, it would have been smart to order ‘tropical spec seats’ with cloth centres.
I have seen this in SWB and I think Lusso 250s, certainly on 275s , but I can’t recall seeing it on a GTE.
Was it an option I wonder?

A modern option might be to find some GTE seat and do your own tropical version for summer usage?
Specialist trimmers should have the correct cloth.
They do come up every now and then, I guess unwanted by replica builders.
A new project now 4247 is complete !

I have seen terry cloth seat covers that fastened to the cushion and seat back over the pleated sections of the leather seats on a 330 GT 2+2. The word "Pininfarina" was stitched into the terry cloth. The car was for sale at Fantasy Junction. I also have photos of similar seat covers apparently made for a 330 GTC. Can someone tell me how to attach photos?

Hi Larry,

There is a tutorial at the top of the forum posts that tells you how to do it:

Good luck.
