Hi All,
My oil temperature gauge is much more active than my water temp gauge.
It quickly reaches temperature whilst the water gauge barely moves unless that car is very hot, and then only a little.
This seems counter intuitive.
Terry Hoyle suggested that the wiring may be transposed.
What do you reckon ?

250 Oil and Water Temp Gauges
Re: 250 Oil and Water Temp Gauges
Graham: Very good possibility. Get a modern temp gun and shoot the oil and water senders when the car is hot and compare the gun readings with the gauges.
Re: 250 Oil and Water Temp Gauges
Good idea. Thanks !
Now to go and look for the senders....

Re: 250 Oil and Water Temp Gauges
Hi Graham,
Sounds like they're swapped. The water temp gauge on a 250 engine is on the back of the head by the left distributor, and the oil sender is down by the back of the sump under the car. Pick one of them, unplug the wire, and ground it to the chassis with the key on. The gauge it's connected to will peg.
If they're swapped, you may need to remove the center console to get your hands behind the gauges, but another trick is to remove the large gauge (speedo or tach) and try reaching the back of the gauge from that direction. You'll have to disconnect the drive cable to the large gauge to come out.
Good luck.
Tom

Re: 250 Oil and Water Temp Gauges
Thanks for the advise, I will test over the weekend.
If they are transposed I might just leave them be for now.
After all, I will know and nobody else ever drives the car !
