Wire Wheel Maintenance

While trying to eliminate a front wheel squeak that reappeared after two weeks of trucking across the country, the wheel guy found two two spokes were loose, causing the wheel to be out of true. We fixed this, which did not fix the squeak, but that will be another post when we do identify the problem

The question is, what sort of maintenance should I do on my Borranis? Is there a test I can regularly do to find out if they need help? Not sure if I should be doing the fixing, but would like to know when (or if) I should seek professional help...
