6 carb setup vs 3 carb setup

Post by Wrigs2019 »

Curious as to why the competition cars have a 6 carb setup while most production cars have a 3 carb setup. What are the advantages to each?

Six carbs produce 20-25 more bhp. Three carbs produce slightly more torque at lower rpm.

6 carbs are a lot of carburetor for the street on a two cam engine. Guys love talking about how they have a race car for the street, but they usually don't understand the extra hp is is only at WOT (wide open throttle), which rarely happens on the street while on the race track, it's nearly all the time! The rest of the time on a street car, you're dealing with fuel fouled plugs, and hard starting. Just my opinion!

Tom: I have never known a correctly tuned "factory built" six carb car to be either hard starting or to foul spark plugs. Without a doubt, many later private conversions are not set up correctly and can have problems.

Hi Dyke,

True. you may be right, but it's still a lot of carburetor for a street driven car!
