Seat Belts

Post by Tom Wilson »

Some cars have plastic guides for the seatbelts. One of those mounted on the seat would eliminate wear and keep the belt in place. It would not be original, but neither is the seat belt.

I had a Fiat spyder with the plastic protectors. Perhaps you could make a mold of a pair, cast them in bronze and have them chrome plated. It would look finished; much better than the cheap plastic.

Seat Belts

Post by wgraham2 »

Hello Tom,

I'm a long time lurker. Your craftsmanship and attention to detail is impressive and the journey has been great fun. Just wondered if you might want to change the color of your belts to match the leather. The black really jumps out.

Trust me, if I could get matching seatbelts, I would, but the retractors only come in BLACK! :-(

Tom, can you dye or paint the retractors?

Hi Andy,

The belts are my main concern. The plastic boxes could be painted, but would make the belts look worse if they remained black.

I used snake oyl seat belt products for my belts, this was for my Avanti restoration I changed the color so they used new straps (webbing) to my liking. They restored the crome on the buckles and changed the color on all plastic, etc They have thousands of seat belts and colors. They will restore your buckles and retractors as well. I sent them a swatch of leather and carpet to match the color combo. Not cheep.

I must chip in:

Tom,

the Black Belts just don't look right
especially after all the effort
that went into that BEAUTIFUL Interior

I can see Black Belts maybe
being OK on an original Interior
with a little 'Patina' such as mine
(OK a LOT of Patina)

but not in this case

as for the retractors-
it would seem that
you could put your
newly acquired Leather Wrappping Skills
to good use here

O.K. O.K! I'm going to work on installing better looking seatbelts! Buddy gave me a source that I'm going to look into next week. I guess these will be a mock-up.
