330 door mirrors

Post by Wrigs2019 »

So what is everyone’s thoughts on door mirrors? I don’t believe I’m required to have them down here in FL and I’m inclined to not have one installed as I think it detracts from the lines of the car. For those that have them, are they really useful? They seem very small.

They are helpful - for sure.....i don't have one on my 58 Ellena, so when i have driven it or backing up etc, i do, out of habit look for the mirror for assistance.....my 66 330 GT has one installed from the dealer when new.

so the decision is a matter of choice......most 330's I've sen have them installed, but again your choice.

I feel it's too dangerous not to have them, especially when you're used to having them on all the other cars. I know guys who don't have them on their cars, but have installed a wide mirror inside the car to help with the rear view.

I have a mirror on my GTE on the drivers side only and use it all the time, especially when backing out of the driveway. It is small, but better than nothing. The proper location for a mirror on the passengers side would be blocked by the pillar, so I did not install it. I will admit, though, that by habit I always try to check that non-existent mirror when I change lanes!

I have mirrors on both sides of all of my cars. As I get older, it gets harder to turn my neck and body, so I really depend on the mirrors on both sides.

When I first got the 330 running 40 years ago, it only had the driver's side mirror. Eventually, I found a matching mirror and installed it on the passenger's side.

The 308 came with just a driver's side mirror. Since that mirror cannot be mounted on the passenger side, I ended up buying the correct mirror from the UK, where it is standard for a RHD car.

When the PF coupe was almost finished, I went down to Denninson's to sit in the car and determine the mounting locations for each side.

I couldn't imagine driving without the driver's side mirror -- in fact, I wouldn't do it at all.

For the passenger side, I find that the visibility out of the 330 is better than most modern cars, so I haven't really found the mirror on that side necessary.

There is a mirror available that generally considered "correct" (e.g. matching what dealers installed on request back when they were new), which is of course listed on Kerry's website, so there's no downside to adding at least one mirror.

Ok. Well I guess that’s settles it. Looks like in the market for a side mirror. Let me know if anyone has any leads on a correct one for SII 330.

Talbot mirrors were pretty common and still being made (http://www.talbotco.com/talbot_mirror.htm). The other common mirror was what eventually became standard on Daytonas.

See http://www.330gt.com/Encyclopedia/Mirror.htm for some pictures.

Well, I cast my vote with those who favor the mirror; both sides if possible. I've been impressed with the number of times that's impossible to get the right side mirror to give a good view, while simultaneously being symmetrical with the driver's mirror when viewed from the front or back, straight on. (E.G.my '67 Ghibly and my '64 XKE /OTS). The recent purchase of my '67 XKE/FHC yielded the same problem that you've got... no mirrors and a beautiful silhouette. If you really like the obvious beauty of the car's shape, I'll bet you won't like the view of the top of the CT scanner while they see if your squash is still intact. The cost of the mirrors including labor, is probably still less than your deductible for that CT scan...and you'll be lucky if that's all you need. I've already ordered mirrors for both sides of my E-type. Steve

I too did not want to drill into the door or fender. I found a source in the UK that makes a period chrome round mirror that clips into the vent window of my GTE. You can remove it easily with no blemishes if you like.

Exactly. Available in round or rectangular. I put the other on my MG T type.

I too have been looking for a LH mirror. I need one for my early Series 1 GTE. I am not opposed to drilling holes if the mirror is the period appropriate one. Were the Talbot Green Dot bullet mirrors appropriate for these cars? If not, what was?

Here's one I saw on an Aurelia that was done very nicely. Unfortunately, I wasn't able talk to the owner so I could see how it was made.

I have 2 period mirrors in a box somewhere. Not matching but each slightly different.Willing to dig them out and take a pic. If the new buyer of my mid series 1 GTE doesn’t want you can have one. Campbell
