Is this an example that requires technical bulletin front shock repair?

Post by linen grey ghost »

Just a question on s/n 11017 a 330 GTC recently purchased on "Bring-A-Trailer", does the photo show that the front shock top mounts require the repair advised in the period Ferrari technical bulletin? If so, just a note n the auction comments may save the new caretaker some serious grief.

looks like it needs the engineering change - hard to tell from the picture, but i see a lighter color where it should be solid metal.

Hi,

for me it looks like it has been done. I think the lighter color is a reflection on the weld joint? But I agree a better pic would help.

Cheers

It looks like it's been done.

Auction houses are not in the business of dissuading you from buying a car, so information that would put doubt in a purchase is often conveniently omitted! For all the years I've been writing and posting videos of this problem, I still see GTCs being auctioned with this issue. They have "Ferrari specialists" on staff, and can be easily fixed before the auction, and yet here we are!

With hindsight, and enlarged images it appears that the technical bulletin repair was completed on s/n 11017.

Best result for new caretaker.

In the BaT listing, it looks to me that from picture #197, in the lower left-hand corner, you can see the appropriate welding has been neatly done. Nice car. There will always be a million things to do, but one thing I would get after is to repair and protect that battery tray from the apparent rust and corrosion visible. Best, Steve.
