jag xjs inspired by a 330GT mk 1 ?

Post by lee »

my 330GT mk 1 64'. sn 6201 was purchased by jaguar cars in 1966 where they completely stripped it to see what made it 'tick', when they had completed the survey, Mr Blake who then headed styling and design etc. bought this car. Bob [Mr Blake] was from the 'states' where for a number of years prior to working at jaguar he designed and built cars for Briggs Cunningham who then raced them with quite some success.Bob owned this 330 for about 9 years taking the mileage from 6,900 to 30,343
food for thought but the 330 with it's 4 headlights could have been his inspiration for the xjs...how could such a stunning car not have left it's mark!

I always liked the XJS. Now I know why !
I only wish I knew what happenned to my car in so much detail. The most exciting piece of history is an owner who was jailed for arson and got the car reposessed. While the record from 1983-on is complete (Seattle and Belgium), I have no idea where the car was from 1963 to 1983, other than it was supposedly sold through FBA in Paris (yet it has US markings).
Ferrari will not tell me for "legal privacy reasons".

Just as an FYI, I believe the XJS was designed by Malcolm Sayer. I have heard that the project to replace the E-Type started as early as 1968. The first XJS was produced around 1975.

And how about the Pininfarina design study that has the same 4 headlight front end as the later 330GT. I looked for a picture but I've left it at work. Will try to scan in for anyone interested.

hi,

quoting from 'sports car market ' mag, which seems to indicate that Bob Blake was principally involved in the design of the FHC E-type, but being the design head of Jaguear he must of had some involvement with Malcom Sayer.
