Monterey GTE reunion- 2004, Friday Dinner

Post by lukek »

Just checked with Bill, and he said to post away. If you have questions, e-mail him at newsletter250gte@aol.com
I will be there with bells on (alright, maybe a necklace fashioned out of my T/O bearing instead...)
:)

Gentlemen:

Believe it or not it has been TEN YEARS since Len Miller called all of
the
GTEs to gather in Monterey to celebrate Ferrari as the honored marque.
That was
in 1994. Fourteen GTEs and one 330 America showed up and were displayed
at
Concorso Italiano. Len commented at the time that it was probably the
most GTEs
ever together in one spot at one time, perhaps including at the
factory.

The time has flown by and it is time for us to get together again. I
am
sending this to all of my subscribers in the western U. S. (and some in
the east
who I know are planning to come) for whom I have e-mail addresses. I
will use
the U. S. Mail to reach those who either do not use e-mail or have not
given
me an e-mail address.

The Monterey Peninsula will see the largest gathering of Prancing
Horses
ever--I anticipate in the range of 1,000 - 2,000. I have arranged for
a corral
for GTEs at Concorso Italiano at the Black Horse Golf Course at
Monterey Bay in
Seaside on Friday, August13. More than 700 Italian vehicles are
expected on
the golf course and over 500 non-Italian classic vehicles on the
driving range.
This is NOT a judged event, but rather a giant display of cars with
plenty
of time to meet people, look at cars, and visit 100+ concessionaire
booths
offering all kinds of automotive products (parts, books, clothing,
etc.). WE will
enjoy seeing one another's cars, meeting fellow subscribers to the 250
GTE
Newsletter, exchanging maintenance and restoration tips, parts sources,
etc.

Friday evening after Concorso Italiano we are planning to hold our
annual
coctail party, probably in Pacific Grove, followed by a dinner. I
should be
able to include details on these two events in the April Newsletter.

For Concorso Italiano, the exhibitor fee for your GTE/America is as
follows
(includes admission for two persons): $50 until May 31, $100 from June
1-30,
$180 from July 1-31, and $250 from August 1-13. SO IT IS IMPORTANT
that you
send your money in before May 31. Spectator tickets are $80 each from
March 16
to July 1st and $100 after July 1. It is cheaper to bring your GTE if
you
register early than it is to come as a spectator . DETAILS are at
www.concorso.com. The management of Concorso tells me that they will
NOT accept replicas
based on the GTE.

As most of you know, vintage car racing runs continuously at Laguna
Seca on
Saturday and Sunday, and the Pebble Beach Concours is held on Sunday.

On Sunday, August 15 registration for those attending/exhibiting at the
Ferrari Club of America International Meet will begin at 3:00PM. On
Monday, August
16 the action starts with a Rally in late morning, offers a Track
School at
Leguna Seca all day, a Concours Seminar in the afternoon, and a
Welcoming
Dinner at 7:00 at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. On Tuesday, August 17 the
FCA
Concours d'Elegance will be held at the Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley.
On Wednesday
the action moves to Laguna Seca with track time for Ferraris competing
in
either the Coppa Bella Macchina or Coppa GT. That evening is the
Awards Banquet at
the Convention Center next to the Doubletree. Thursday, August 19
brings a
360 Challenge Race to Laguna Seca, closing out the FCA activities.

I URGE YOU TO log on to the Concorso Internet site, register your car,
get
your hotel/motel reservations, and JOIN US. Ten years ago we had a
very
rewarding time and it should be just as much fun in 2004.

The Internet sites are as follows:

Concorso Italiano: www.concorso.com

Ferrari Club of America: www.fca2004.com

Laguna Seca: www.laguna-seca.com

I hope to see you all on Friday, August 13.

Ciao!

-Bill Preston

Well, here is a 1963 Shell magazine ad that currently hangs on my wall. There are 20 GTEs in the photo by my count.
