Daytona Glove box light

I have the dash out and would like to remove the glove box light. There are three spring loaded prongs that hold the light intact to the backside of the glove box. To remove the light you are supposed to compress the three prongs to slide the entire unit through the hole in the glove box. When I do this the hole seems too small as each of the three prongs has a rise in it that makes the unit too large in diameter to slide it through the glove box hole into the glove box. I know it must come out because it was put there by some mortal. I am perplexed as to how to do this.
