Correct Grille Cavallino Horse emblem for 250GT PF Coupe

Post by rwills »

I am still trying to understand which is the correct grille emblem for my 1959 250 GT PF Coupe. Dennis McCann thinks it is a chrome on brass one whereas other people have told me it is a flat aluminium type. Can anyone help with this?

John, perhaps you can confirm which one is on your car.

Any other views greatly appreciated.

Sorry, just re-read the message from Chris Coios and Tom. It seems Dennis is correct. John, perhaps you can confirm what your one is like.

Roger, I'll post a couple of pictures from my PF coupes of the grill emblem privately.

But mine are flat and feel like they are brass.

I too would love to know!! I have been involved with part restoration of a 250gte here in Aus which had an aluminum badge. I assumed this had been replaced with a circa 328 badge.
The front page of the 250gte handbook clearly shows the pressed 3D chromed version which is common to every 330gt I have seen.
Interestingly the same photo shows the grill screws as slotted not phillips -- something that surprises me greatly for a PF car.

Mine is a 1959, it is original, it is aluminum, screws in the grill are slotted,
the horse looks like it is engraved or something, and a darker color added to the engraved area, but it is very faded.

Roger,

The horse on my car is stamped sheet brass coated with chrome.

John,

Thanks for all the photos. They will be invaluable to the trimmer.
