Hazy gauges
I don't know what was on the inside of the glass lenses and on both sides of the plastic inserts of the gauges in my GTE, but it was some sort of hazy/cloudy residue(?).
I removed the bezels and then was able to clean up the inserts & lenses by *carefully* using Meguire's Plastic Cleaner #17 & following up with Plastic Polish #10.
Obviously, this was not a UV discoloration problem. I did the cleaning maybe 15 years ago, & the haze has never returned, so it worked for my particular situation.

After seeing the latest Ferrari Friday installment, I'm still in for two sets of gauge faces, but wonder about the use of vinyl letters for that application. We use vinyl lettering in our business all the time, and with the small size of the letters we'd need, using vinyl starts to get pretty dodgy. Just something to know going in...
We'd also want to make sure to spec a vinyl that is meant for outdoor use, in order to stand up to the heat and UV that they'll occasionally encounter. With the number of people that expressed an interest in the gauge faces earlier, we could certainly split up the screen cost and make that option more palatable for everyone. Thoughts?

Here's my thought and next step on the gauges. At $80 bucks to set up each silkscreen, the five I need would cost $400 bucks. I don't know what it would cost for each of the silkscreens once I hade the screens made. This does not include the clock that D&M restored a few years back.
I have an e-mail out to Mike at D&M to see what it would cost to have the blanks I had made here in NYC silkscreened by him with the screens he already made. I will see if Mike will do it cheap enough for us to send blanks to him.
If he doesn't come down to a decent price, I might as well make them up here. So far, the people who are interested are: Luke, Rad, David, and Gary. Any others interested?

GTE Guages
Tom - I'm "in" for a set of the small guage lenses (excluding clock), but would rather spend a few extra bucks to get them done nicely (e.g. silkscreened) than gamble on vinyl and then endure the frustration of doing them again in 3 years.
Let me know the costs and I'll send you funds.
Thanks,

Here's an update on the lenses. I spoke to Mike at D&M restorations, and decided to have him do the silkscreening. I sent him the lenses I had cut here in NYC. Making the silkscreens here would have cost $80 bucks each for each gauge, and the process would only allow the screens to last about two weeks. (I don't know why, but that is what the people told me at the plastic shop) Mike already has the silkscreens (that last indefinitely) and wouldn't have to make new ones. I should be getting them back from him in a couple of days to show everyone his work.
Mike is willing to work with us in printing the gauges on the plastic lenses I make up here. So now I just have to work out the details on selling the lenses to you, and sending them down to Mike at D&M for printing. He'll give us a bulk discount at $20 bucks a lens, and I'm thinking about charging $10 bucks for each lens blank. That brings a total of about $30 bucks per lens, $180 for the usual 6 small gauges. That's significantly cheaper than the $400 it used to cost! What do you guys think?

Mike at D&M probably has all the silkscreens for any of these small gauges, but he'll want to make sure he's printing the right one for your car. I can sell you the lenes, and send them directly to Mike, but you may want to send him your old lenses to get exactly what you need. For those ordering for a late GTE, or a 330 America, Mike can just print them like mine.

would it even make sense to attempt the tach and the speedo? I understand the issue with the bevel, but it would be nice to do the dash resto and just put everything in at once. Did D&M quote you on the big gauges? Was that the initial / from scratch $800 figure?
thx
