Alternate Wheels

Post by GTH1 »

Are there any Ferrari alloy wheels that are the same dimensions as the stock wire wheels on a GTE?

I believe the alloy wheels found on 330 GT 2+2s should fit a GTE. They are 15X7s and the Series III GTEs had 15X7 wire wheels. I think the offsets are the same as well.

Does anyone have photo's of a 250 GTE/330 America with alloys? Or, a whiz with photo shop capabilities?

I've been considering such a swap and am curious what the end result might look like.

Thanks, Rad

The wire wheels are so hard to keep clean. In addition, I like the maintence free aspect of no spokes for extended and hard driving. I had not really that about the looks part assuming a Ferrari wheel would not look to out of place. A manufactured image is an excellent idea!

Tom- I also forgot to mention that it was a pleasure meeting you out in Monterey. Both my wife and I enjoyed talking cars with you!

Hi Gary,

It was nice meeting you all as well! That weekend is so crazy with all the people I want to meet, I wish I had more time!

I personally love the way wires look on these cars, but since I'm about to experience first hand how quickly these wheels can get dirty, I may have second thoughts.

I remember seeing a 250 GTE that had mags on e-bay a couple of years ago, but I doubt I kept the pictures.

I think that was a red GTE with yellow wheels that had been used in some vintage racing. It really didn't look that bad. I can understand why you would be concerned with cleaning the wires but if you start out with a good clean set you can keep them looking good with regular maintenance. The wires that have 10+ years of grime and brake dust are the tough ones to make look good.

For what it is worth, here's the picture of 5109 America with yellow alloy wheels:

Any idea of what a serviceable set of alloys cost?

Thoroughly cleaning four wire wheels is a simple 8-hour procedure: take them off the car and polish in and around the spokes until your fingers are buggered. Then put 'em back on.
