Rubber Door surround

I replaced the rubber door surround and have a problem getting the bend in the top right corner(drivers side) to take shape. Does anyone know the trick to keeping the round bulb to not cave in. I thought about using a heat shrink gun but thought I would ask first. I might also mention that when I purchased and installed the new rubber my doors would not close properly. The rubber has a metal u shape in it to grab on the channel. I took off the rubber and hammered it flat, and reinstalled. It worked. Doors close fine.
