Exhaust for a American C4

Post by wwwboard »

I have been looking for a good exhaust system for my C4.

I have been reading all the postings on exhaust and have become somewhat disconcerted.
My first choice was going to be London stainless, Price and quality sounded like they were the best choice, but it sounds like there have been issues with their quality. The one set of pictures with the mounting flanges upside down and the apparent response that all Ferraris are different – is beyond my ability to comprehend from a high-end exhaust manufacture. Anyone have first hand experience installing with London Stainless on a American C4 with Flange joints.

The people at Stebro sound like they have it together. I have talked to them personally and they tell a convincing story. Again – any first hand experience specifically with C4.

Time Valve looks really good but at $4000.00 that will not fly on my present budget.  I believe that I will probably be able to make whatever I get work, however, my expectation is that when you pay $2500.00 + for a system it should be correct and fit

Thanks for any help

Hi Aaron,

A suggestion I would make with ANY aftermarket exhaust is not to have the flanges welded securely in place. Since you'll probably have an exhaust shop install this system, welding a few flanges should be easy! Even Timevalve admits that some of the Ferrari shops that buy their exhausts request not to have hangers and flanges welded, so they can custom fit them to that particular car. Perhaps by the time C4s were made,  Ferraris became more uniform, but some how I doubt it!

I'd be curious what London Stainless has to defend themselves on the system I mention in my post.

I have an acquaintance with C/4 in which he has installed a Stebro. I believe he was very satisfied with the system. I'll contact him.

My C/4 came with a hot rodded stock system (4 separate glasspacks spliced in place of the stock mufflers) which sounded great... for awhile. But the original resonators are rotting out, and I am currently looking at options as well. Keep me/us posted as to what you find out.

Stebro had not built a system for the 365 gTC/4 before they did mine.  They gave me a deep discount if I would send them my OEM system to use as a template.  The discount was nice, but I was without the car whle they had it.  Original time estimate was 4-5 weeks...not too bad, I figured.  Actual was 3 months.

The system is good quality construction with clean welds.  The fit was good, but getting ANY exhaust on a C4 is a pain, because the rubber hangers have very little stretch.  The Stebro is 1/4 inch larger diameter than OEM, but still fit OK.  I got the exhaust only (4 sections), not the headers...Stebro
doesn't make the headers.

According to Ferrari of Houston, there are supposed to be short piping lengths that fit inside the exhaust to act as connectors between the sections. These lengths were not on my car, when I pulled the exhaust off.  There wasn't any way to replace them with the new Stebro, so I decided to try putting it all back together the same as I found it, i.e. no connecting piping.  There doesn't seem to be a problem since...no leaks.  I did have to go back once and re-tighten the triangular fittings that pull the different sections up tight.  No big deal.

Other than the much longer than expected time without the car, I've been happy with the Stebro.  Of course, this wouldn't happen to you, since they
don't need a template anymore!!

Aaron,
We (A.V.Oldtimers address Sterrenlaan 84-86 B.2610 Wilrijk-Antwerp)are a Belgium (mid-west Europe) based company and specialised in Stainless Steel exhausts.
We have already sold exhaust for many Ferraris.
Concerning sound : a stainless exhaust should sound very similar to a orginal if it has been manufactured with adequate plate and tubes (thickness is important) and if the filling material of the muffler is of good quality (good long fibres !).
Concerning fitting; it is true that even between a original Ferrari (you can see it on the labels - if still on the exhaust) and a Ansa you can have small differences.  But I can assure you that if your new exhaust is manufacturered with any those as a pattern you will not face major fitting problems.
I take the liberty to give you our price for a quality made exhaust for your 365GT C4 : $ 1655,- (Fob Antwerp) manufacturing time approx 7 weeks.
Kind regards
Jozef

Jozef,

I attempted to email you, for some reason your address can't be found by my system.

As you know, My 365 GTC/4 needs a exhaust system. I would like to do this once in my life time and as you are probably aware, the design on this car tends to collect moisture and thus the reason for quality stainless steel. I would like something that is very close to stock regarding noise level without overly restricting exhaust flow. The system I have today is full of holes which makes it dangerous, and is so noisy that I cannot use the radio even with the windows rolled up.

I'm interested in some more information.

Do you have templates for the US version of the C4 with flange connections and rear mountings on rubber "donuts"? (There is a picture of the US C4 system on the Time Valve web page) or do I need to send you my exhaust system?

Do you have a picture of a US C4 system that you have manufactured that you can Email me or one on a web I can look at?

Does the price of US $1655 include all 4 sections (two centers, the left rear  and right rear) and are the rear section tail pipes chromed as original?

Thanks, Aaron

We have just noticed this message board.
We manufacture the correct exhaust for your 'USA Spec' Ferrari 365 GTC/4 with the correct flange fittings.  We produce this as a particularly accurate replica of the original with ribbed muffler casings, side seams, stainless steel flanges and polished stainless tips. We manufacture this to order, presently within 10 days.
The cost for the system is 1726.00 Pounds excluding UK taxes which you will not pay.
Delivery ('Next Day' to major cities) via FedEx adds 70.00 Pounds.

We have also noticed a reference in this message board to an exhaust supplied to a Canadian Ferrari 250 GTE in the early 1990's.

We did not manufacture this exhaust system!

During our 'correspondence' we have been asked to prove that we didn't make it which, of course, we cannot do.

However, we will offer you a 30% discount from the cost of this system reducing the price to 1208.00 pounds in the hope that when you receive it you will be so pleased that you will tell everyone.
