CLUTCH AND BRAKE FLUID

Post by wwwboard »

Tom: I jest went through my 330 brake system for the second time because my car sat in a body shop for years with the wrong fluid in the system. I have found out from Billy at White Post Restorations that I can ONLY use Castrol L M A and not even silican fluid because the seals will swell and lock the brakes.      And thats why my car came to a stop in the middle of the road. If this happens to you, crack the fitting at the master cylinder leting a small amount of fluid in a rag and you can get the car home.

Hi Bill,

The British guys have been telling of this problem for years. Some guys say that the swelling of the Lucas seals has never happened to them with either the Alcohol based DOT3, DOT 4, or the silicon DOT 5, but hearing of even one failure on this stuff has convinced me to insist on Castrol LMA. The brakes are too important to screw around with, let alone, expensive to re-do!
