Marelli Voltage Regulator – a solution I think?

My Marelli voltage regulator failed last week on my C4. It went to full charge mode all the time, driving current into the field winding regardless of what the voltage at the battery was.

I purchased a standard solid-state Ford replacement regulator at Riebies Auto, and wired it up as follows – (Letters are on the lugs of the Ford replacement regulator)

- The “F” terminal connects to the alternator field (whit wire)
- The “S” terminal connects to the ignition “on” system (the other wire) it’s hot when the ignition is on
- The “A” terminal is a direct battery connection (I tied it to the “power source plug” near the drivers left knee
- The “I” terminal is left open
- The case is tied directly to ground (a good solid ground)

So Far it works very well, about 14.5 volts at the battery, and doesn’t oscillate like the Marelli unit did.  I mounted it to the metal bracket that the originally Marelli unit mounts to – it kind of looks like it belongs there – fortunately it is covered by interior facing.  I have about half an hour on the unit - anyone know of any issues with this setup?
