Ferraris on E-bay

Is it something i don`t understand? One of the classic Ferraris, a 330GTC did not make more than 67000$ in restored condition at the auction; while a 96 F50 is now up to a million dollars. Is E-bay a realistic place to buy and sell all things Ferrari?

Hi Bernard,

I wouldn't really believe everything you see on E-bay.

Many cars that close on e-bay with a successful closing bid actually fall through when it comes time for the buyer to secure funds. I've seen this time and time again. Many potential bidders contact me about the cars, and I try keep track of the auction results.

Unfortunately thse prices tend to skew people's perception on how much these cars are actually trading hands. Many times, the owner of the car sells the car to the second, or third bidder for less when the highest bidder craps out on the sale for less money. Because the car doesn't get re-listed on e-bay for another round, the public thinks the car sold for the higher price.

$67K seems like a good price for a GTC, provided there aren't any major issues. They tend not to break the $100k mark too oftem these days.

Most Ferraris I see on Ebay never meet their reserve price and thus don't sell through Ebay.  However I think that it does give the car good exposure and frequently a deal is done after the auction to someone who saw it on Ebay.

You do have to take a lot on faith when bidding on an item on Ebay.  That's not a good thing when buying a Ferrari.  There's just not enough time tohave the car inspected properly .

As Tom says, take what you see for prices on Ebay with a grain of salt.

As far as other Ferrari things, Ebay is a good place to sell something as you get a world wide audience for your market place.  There are a lot of Ferraristi that regularly scan Ebay for items, particularly literature.  I know as I get outbid quite regularly by them.

with respect to the cars you have seen bid up recently, take a second look. there are a couple of guys who are bidding the price up to completely bogus amounts and their bids are being cancelled by the seller. i bought a dino that was on ebay, however, i was already looking at the car prior to it's placement on ebay. i closed the deal a day or so after the auction ended, but had had ample opportunity to complete an inspection of the car. i wouldn't put to much faith in what you see the cars sell for as most of the cars are newer and the market is completely over-inflated. if you watch the older cars, very rarely do they get bid up, as anyone who knows about these cars knows better.
