Lusso

Post by wwwboard »

Is there a check list for a first time buyer regarding the Lusso.  For example I was told that if there is rust in the bottom of the passenger door most likely there will be rust in the frame.  Why might that be so?  Where is the Lusso characteristically likely to need repair?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Rust in the door won't tell you anything about the frame! Lussos have aluminum door skins, so electrolytic corrosion between the steel door frame and the alloy skin can happen.

The chassis frame is the same ladder type arrangement Ferraris had in this era made up from oval tubes, and cross members. They're pretty sturdy pieces, but you can check them for rot by tapping along their length with a small hammer. Anything that sounds like a thud should be looked at carefully.

Lussos will need the same attention as any classic Ferrari (Engine, rust, brakes). Make sure the car you buy has all the parts that are specific to a Lusso. The grille, bumpers, tail lights, hood scoop, and watts-type linkage on the rear end, are all pieces that are hard to source if they are missing on your car, and can cost a lot of time and money finding.
