getting the drivers door off

Post by wwwboard »

Hi,

It seems that the hinge pins are frozen in the hinges. I took out the split pins, at either end of the pins but the pin's themselves won't move. Anyone care to comment on what to do other than hit them with a larger hammer. Oh, I assume top pin goes out via down and bottom pin comes out via up.
It's a Series II GTE.

Regards,

Andrew.

I think you should buy a hinge pin removal tool. They are available from Eastwood, and give you good leverage when driving the pins out. You run the risk of distorting the pin if you hit it with a flat hammer. DH

Hello Andrew.
This worked on my 365GTC4
Using an ordinary punch of similar size to the hinge pin.
After removimg both circlips Tap the hinge pin down (both  top & bottom hinges)  & then fill the little well with penetrating oil or similar .Do this 3 or 4 times over the next 24 hours. The pins will then come out freely when tapped
I  had some replacements made  & replaced all 4  hinge pins on reassembly
