In the process of replacing my hood struts
(see earlier post)
unfortuneately, I had to dislodge some of the adhesive
holding the Hood Insulation Pad
to the underside of the hood
I do not know if this was the original stuff
(sure looks like it to me)
but whatever they used held very tenaciously
(especially given the unfavorable conditions for adhesive in that vicinty)
but yielded readily when removed
I am impressed
I was wondering what adhesive to use to re-adhere
the underhood insulation pad to the hood frame
when the strut job is done
Tom-
Have you gotten to this phase yet?
(I fergit)
what did you / plan to use??

hood pad adhesive
Hi Andrew,
The original glue Ferrari used to stick the hood pad to the the hood looked like a type of constuction adhesive, and was applied pretty thickly at about 1/8-1/16 of an inch thick.
I used 3M trim adhesive which we'll see if it holds up. After trying to sand off the old glue, I didn't want to put that crap back on, but if the contact adhesive doesn't hold, I can always put on stronger stuff later.

I have been using Contact cement for years and always had good results. the brush on stuff works best make sure to apply it to both the hood pad and the hood then wait for it to dry. make sure to leave a gap around the edges and make some alignment marks before you glue because once the stuff sticks that's it no second chances. i have found that it is best to wait for a warm day to apply the pad the glue just doesn't work as well in the cold.
