330GT air horn color, muffler clamps
330GT air horn color, muffler clamps
Can anyone confirm the proper color of the air horns on a 67 330GT 2+2? Mine were sprayed with black, but the original candy-apple red can still be seen under the black, so I'm going to repaint that color on the trumpet part. The bases of mine are kind of tan in color. Is that correct, or is it supposed to be a metalic grey?
Also - any clues as to where I could get original muffler clamps for the car?
Thanks

I've seen Tom's detailed description where he says the diaphragms are hammertone grey. Just wondering if the color of mine - tan - could be a variant original, as the paint looks to be original. There's no grey paint under my tan.
I've tried several outlets for the clamps without luck. Lyle Tanner said he hadn't been able to find any in years, and if I could find some to please let him know, so if you know of a place I'd appreciate the tip.
Thanks

You might attach a picture of the diaphrams for comment, others here are more expert than I but most all of our vintage Ferrari trumpets are red, the Fiat Dinos came out of the Ferrari Factory w hammer tone gray trumpets, never heard of tan.

Wish I could show pics, but the horns are at the painter's place right now, so can't get pics very easily. I'm only questioning the diaphragm, or flat round end/base of the horns, not the trumpet part. I know my trumpets are supposed to be red, just not sure about the base part.
Thanks again.

Hi David,
Please put the model and year of your car in the signature so we don't have to bother you to tell us everytime.
I can not definitively answer your question on the horns, but if and when you can post pictures, we might be able to get a better answer from the more knowledgeable.
Original muffler clamps are not easily available. Restorers hoard these like Cheney clamps!

Ah I was thinking you meant exhaust hangers:zdr wrote:I was afraid of that with the clamps. Will try to get pics of the horns.

Hi Guys:
For what it is worth, my trunpets and the base are a silver hammertone. I have every reason to think that is original. So much of the car is.
Alternatively, someone went to the trouble of stripping the paint from the inside of the horns to repaint them hammertone, Where the paint has peeled to the bare metal there is no red paint.
Cheers

Don't know about the originals, but when you buy new replacement ANSA exhaust, the clamps they furnish are already on the system. They are black wrinkle like the rest of the exhaust. They are painted at the same time since there is a bare area left after you move them to the correct position.zdr wrote:Can anyone tell me if the original exhaust clamps came with the black wrinkle finish, or were they bare metal?

OK, I have pics of my horns. The ends of the bases have plastic round pieces that are a tan color, the round metal piece that the plastic piece is attatched to is painted the same tan. No evidence of any other paint over or under the tan. Seems pretty original.
If anyone would be so kind as to explain how to get pics on here, I'll do so. Can't seem to copy and paste....
