Beautiful car, Michael!

I love fiat dino spiders as well. I know someone who has a 2 liter, and it's quite a cool car.

I'd love to track one down myself, but I've been trying to hold off on any car purchases until i finish my current project. Of course, the way prices have been going up lately, that may not be a good choice :)

Very nice Michael! Nothing quite like a quick spin on a warm summer evening with the top down. Do the dogs have to wear booties to protect the upholstery when they ride in the back ? Mike

Looking for Fiat Dino

Post by 330 America »

Guys - if anyone hears about another one of these becoming available, let me know. I'm looking for an interesting convertible and have been giving strong consideration to the Alfa Guilietta Veloce (pre-2600 series) for road and/or vintage racing (I just acquired my SVRA vintage license).

I was hot on the trail of a decent Fiat Dino convertible 2 years ago when my 330 America project took a turn for the worse (money, time, etc.) so I've been distracted. With the end in sight for the 330A (this year), I'm resuming my hunt for a reasonably priced, reasonably reliable convertible. I had an interesting opportunity to buy a restored 1970 Datsun 2000 convertible from the 2nd owner for about $20K. Not exactly Italian pedigree, but like the Toyota 2000GT -- it has an interesting look and performance.

Let me know,

Michael/guys - with regards to a 2.4L Dino Spyder, what should a numbers matching, #3 driver go for in terms of price?

I have found two candidate cars and I think I know which of the two cars I'm leaning towards buying (I would be flying to inspect the cars prior to negotiating a deal). I was hoping you could give me some guidance on market price and a "short list" of things to look for that are problematic on the Dino Spyders (beyond rust).

Thanks!

Steve This is a very hard question because so few ever sell, I am pretty sure mine was one of only two sold in in the US in almost two years, this scarcity perhaps explained by the Dutch Dino site which says there are at best 210 survivors of the 2.4 liter Spiders. And, with the Euro so strong (last time l looked it was 1.45 dollars to buy one US dollar) Dinos there 100K plus in USD. So like the terrific 330 America, I honestly don't know what one is worth. As what to look for, I assume you know about the rust prone areas, the engine is bomb proof (and all 2.4 engines, Ferrari and Fiat were made by Fiat) the transmission is ZF and as its a conventional layout its super easy to work on, all the wear and tear parts are available, and the Dino guys at Superperforamce have nearly everything, only the interior trim and bits are scarce. Hope this helps!

2.4L Dino Spyder valuation

Post by 330 America »

Michael - thanks for the insight. I am awaiting more pictures on the Dino Spyder and will advise if I end up buying it. Please forward the contact details for any parts suppliers that you know of (e.g. Superperformance) -- as I'll want to call them for an idea of any additional investment I'll have to put in the car once I inspect it.

Thanks,
Steve Patti

The shiney side looks really good, all depends on the underside which in these cars is crucial, M
