Question about a GTE

Post by tyang »

Hi Guys,

We're currently working on the interior of Gary Hiniker's GTE and I would like to clarify a detail on the back package shelf. Gary's car had the interior replaced once before, so the original interior was already replaced. Francois seems to remember the back package shelf to be upholstered in black leather no matter what the interior color was. My 330 America had its original interior, and it was the same color as my beige interior, but Francois said that perhaps they changed this in the later GTEs and 330 Americas. Gary's car is a series I or II on the mid 3500s Serial numbers.

I'd like to survey GTE owners that can confirm if their package shelf matched their interior color, or was black leather.

The interior is looking great, and I would love to get everything exactly right! Thanks everyone.

My package shelf was done in white shag carpet when I got it, but I think that might not be original.

The Series I brochure (using SN 1903) indicates that the shelf was the same color as the leather:

And Rudy, why don't you post a photo of yours?

Did it match the sheepskin seat covers?

Oh, matching duct tape....such panache! I'm jealous now.

Post a photo? Learning to spell photo first.
I get to park in 'handicapped' though....

I think Gary's car would look great in matching leather without a black package shelf. I understand the glare issues with having a black dash and black package shelf, but after driving in bright sunshine in my car with a beige package shelf, I didn't have a problem seeing out back. The tiny mirror is more of a problem than the color of the package shelf.

We just had a 275GTE short nose in the shop, and it had a tobacco interior, but the rear shelf was in black, but that's a different car.

Thanks guys!

I hope all of you that can, are out driving your cars. I fall in love with my 330 America every time I get behind the wheel!

Looks like no real rhyme or reason to the matching or black package shelf.

As I told tom I remember that there was some Ferrari model that the package shelf only came in three prescribed colors, I thought that was a GTE but maybe is was a GTB instead? Thanks. Yale

My thought is that the styling was more conservative in the earlier
cars and everything was made to match. Perhaps in later models
things were a bit more daring and a black package tray was
considered a new styling cue.

On the same vein anyone count the number of holes for the back panel? I would assume my original panel is correct because they didn't change the shape of the defroster vent in the 330 America to the GTE.

My panel has 15 holes across, and 14 holes in the other direction. Each hole is spaced 5/16 inch apart, on center.
