Carb Options
Carb Options
Hello-This is my first post and am giving considerable thought to purchasing a 330 GT Interim car. This would be my first Ferrari purchase as I have come from the Shelby/Mustang/Ford arena.
Here's my question: When reviewing some of the 330's historys on the 330 GT Registry, I have noticed a "40 DCZ/6 Carbs" listed under Options under some specific S/Ns. Can some one tell me what that consisted of and its' availability?

Basically, the first cars were equipped with DFI carbs. Later models changed to DFI 2 ones. The last of the production were built with 40 DCZ/6 ones.
So this wasn't an option, just the what Ferrari used at the time. In the registry, the carb model (usually based on information from a build sheet) is listed under the comment field, not option field (unless I put one in the wrong place and if so, let me know so I can fix it).
Just recently, Buddy Obara (9667) discovered that his car has DFI 2 carbs on it, even though it is a pretty late serial number. Since Ferrari doesn't have a build sheet for his car, we don't know if it came with these or someone replaced 40 DCZ/6 that I would have expected to be on the car originally.

I didn't say that. I just don't know if it has the original carbs on it or not. Since Ferrari also doesn't have the build sheet, even they wouldn't know.sam231 wrote:Uh-oh, you mean Buddy's car is NOT perfect !?! ;>)

I can see how one might think that the /6 would imply 6 carbs, but it's just part of the Weber model name.gsjohnson wrote:...
Being a newbie, I thought maybe there was a 6 carb setup for these cars.
BTW, what 4HL car are you looking at?

Welcome to the Forum. There might not be a better place for real world experience to guide you through this purchase!
The 6 carb set up is A LOT of carburetion! It might look cool, but how often does a street car see WOT? We just had a short nose 275GTB that Francois installed a GTO cam, and a 6 carb set up several years ago. We took it out for a test drive, and if you had the guts to keep your foot in it, you might feel the difference! Besides, I heard the street value for a 6 carb set up is north of $15K! I'll stick to my three carbs!
If you like your Mustang, you'll love the feel of a Vintage Ferrari! A hoped up Mustang is raw and wild, while Vintage Ferrari is smooth and refined by comparison. A great compliment to each other, ask me, I know. I have a four speed '65 Fastback with aluminum heads.
Good luck with your search.
