Possible Resto
I’m thinking about buying this and restoring it but I’ve been having a hard time determining values/costs. What is it worth now? I’m told it’s pretty much complete and was running when it was parked there 12 or so years ago. I imagine it is going to have some good rust to it.
My plan would be to pretty much do a nut and bolt restore (not concourse though) on the car while farming out the engine, some paint/body and interior work. I would like to keep it as original as possible but if there are a few things that are cost prohibitive to keep it original, something close that most people wouldn’t recognize, wouldn’t bother me the least bit, such as those new starters that are out there. I’m guessing 30 months and about 60k. Is that time frame/figure doable?
What would the car be worth when it is finished? When my brother told me about it I was really hoping it was going to be a GTC but that’s obviously not the case. I know the values are sinking right now but give me your views. I would do this more for the joy of it than making any money off it but I don’t want to be too upside down in it.

$40-50K? Maybe less due to the economy. Tom Shaughnessy will know better, but if you ask him, he'll buy it!
The most important thing is to make sure you have EVERYTHING with that car. Missing important pieces will kill you in the restoration. How rotted is the floor on that car? Although the bottom price will not go below the price to part this car out, buying at the bottom to restore this car does not necessarily mean you will get a good deal. Besides the mechanicals, take a close look at the out riggers, floor pans, and door sills. Although the oval tube chassis is pretty stout, it can still rust through at the extremities.
The trick with your time frame is to find a shop that can take your project in and keep to a schedule.

Can you try posting the photo again? If it is a rusty 1960's four seat Ferrari either run away or run to a intensive metalwork class and one of the few remaining friendly bankers. As all on the board know, it will be cheaper to buy a good car. Best, Yale

I'll try and get the picture thing to work again.
I am all for saving these cars BUT what does an engine rebuild cost these days Tom? $25,000? And paint and body work on this car, at least $20,000, no? And how about the interior, another $15,000 or more...so wer'e about at $60,000 and there is quite a lot more to do.
It would be great it you did save this car but be aware, maybe in comparison to plane costs it's no biggie...

The fender vent on the side is for a 4HL car. The 2HL car's vents are different. Financially, it is cheaper to buy a done car. Tom S. breaks these up for parts, so he may give you a finders fee if you are interested. I'd be interested in a project like this but the unexpected engine rebuild on my present car is still sucking my wallet dry.
By the way, I'm pretty sure the car in the foreground is a 250 GTE or 330 America!

And also to follow up on Arts post, Tom S. has two Series 1 330's he is selling, (complete!!! Horaay!), so maybe Mr. Pilot you could get a better car from him to restore and maybe (a long shot) he would give you something towards one of those for finding this one.
